Empowering Women of Color Conference 'Report Back'

I had a really moving (in variety of ways), inspiring, and fun day with some of my close friends, co-facilitators, my D-fuse crew and other EWOC conference attendees.

I co-facilitated an exciting drum workshop via my BoomShake partners Sarah N & Poonam, then went right into doing an Afro-urban dance workshop with my D-Fuse ladies. There was a second session for the drum workshop, that Poonam & Sarah facilitated while I had the dance workshop. In the drum workshop we worked on a Chant-oriented rhythm that was a piece of a song that I arranged that we are calling 'Nkei's Afro-blend Extravaganza' :). We had about 30+ women making loud on the Berkeley Campus.

In the dance workshop we pretty much worked on Azonto and did some follow-the leader, and solo in the middle bits. 1-hour of sweat and smiles. The room was packed but I think we made it work! I was so proud of my crew for co-facilitating and proud of everyone in the room for being unabashedly participatory.  Here's music we used in class:

Happiness- Mafikizolo
Azonto- Fuse ODG
Personally- PSquare
Skelewu- Davido
Kukere- Iyanya
hope to see folks at the Afro-Urban/Global Street Dance Day
